Our company uses Naismith pumps to create a vacuum for packaging liquid chlorine, with the waste chlorine gas being discharged through the exhaust treatment system. We have observed acid accumulation in the main pipe at the outlet of the Naismith pumps; currently, we discharge this accumulated acid on a regular basis. How can we reduce the amount of acid carried by the chlorine gas from a process operation perspective? If acid capture filters are to be used, how should they be selected (given that the inlet flow rate of the Naismith pumps is 300 m3/h)? Is it necessary to have one acid capture filter in use and another as a backup?

It is best to add acid mist catchers; otherwise, the quality of the sodium hypochlorite will not be up to standard and it will turn red!
An acid mist collector seems a bit extravagant; I think a waste chlorine gas buffer tank would be sufficient. Of course, if investment costs are not a concern, an acid mist collector is a good choice.
If there is an excessive accumulation of acid in the outlet pipeline on a regular basis, I think it might be due to issues with the design of the sulfuric acid separator, which results in poor separation efficiency. It could also be caused by problems with the selection of the Naige pump or issues in operation that lead to excessively high outlet pressure, thereby causing more acid to accumulate in the outlet pipeline. It is recommended to identify the root cause of the problem and develop corrective measures. Using an acid mist collector would likely yield better results.
