In my opinion, what the original poster is calling a leak detection is actually just a measurement of the liquid level in the underground storage tank. As for this alarm signal, one needs to first understand the working principle of the magnetostrictive level gauge; its display unit can output an analog signal of 4-20mA, and I’m not quite sure whether it has alarm contacts for output as well. Of course, magnetostriction isn’t necessarily required here.
As I understand it, magnetostrictive technology is like a regular magnetic float level gauge with an additional remote transmitter; therefore, the principle of alarm generation should be the same as that of ordinary transmitters – an alarm threshold is set, and the signal is sent to the SIS or DCS system
