Methylene is -CH2-, urea is carbamide, that is, carbonic diamide; methylenediurea should then be methylene with two urea groups attached to it. The correct name should be N,N’-methylenebisurea. The structural formula is shown in the figure below:

Adding formaldehyde to urea solutions can be used for the production of large-grained urea; it also helps to increase the strength of the resulting particles and reduce dust formation. This is a measure employed by urea manufacturers in their production processes, with formaldehyde being converted into methylenediurea within the final urea product.
