Abroad, compressors typically use membranes with a pressure of 6 to 8 kilograms, which results in lower operating costs and a longer lifespan for the membranes; the downside is however the need for a large number of membranes, leading to higher initial investment costs. Many facilities in China currently use a pressure of 15 kilograms for processing; this results in energy consumption that is more than twice as high as that with lower pressures, since hydrogen is difficult to compress. However, the use of fewer membranes reduces their lifespan, while the lower investment leads to faster returns. The cost of the membranes is approximately 30 million yuan
