In actual chemical production, high-temperature gas comes into direct contact with water. In many processes, demisters are used to prevent the carryover of mist when the syngas leaves. I would like to ask my colleagues: what are the factors that influence the formation of this water mist? What are its causes? Is it related to the quality of the water or its surface tension?
In gas-liquid mass transfer equipment, when the liquid is sprayed out from the top distributor of the tower, some of the fine droplets generated are carried away by the gas exiting from the tower. This phenomenon is also known as mist entrainment. At this point, a defoaming device can be installed to capture the droplets. The degree of mist entrainment at the tower top is primarily influenced by factors such as gas flow velocity, liquid-to-gas ratio, gas and liquid densities, surface tension, and the height of the settling section at the tower top.
Another scenario is when hot gas enters the water directly from above; as bubbles form and rise, this causes entrainment. Fog is obviously made up of very small liquid droplets, but what is this foam then? I don’t quite understand; I hope a friend who knows more can guide me

Foam is nothing but bubbles, air-enclosed droplets caused by surface tension.
