How significant is the impact of eucalyptus encroachment on long-distance natural gas pipelines?

Currently, long-distance pipelines are mostly equipped with a three-layer PE outer anti-corrosion coating. Could eucalyptus root systems damage this anti-corrosion layer, thereby posing risks to the operation of the pipelines? I wonder if anyone has studied this? :Dizzy: I’ve been working on a project recently, where experts and safety supervisors have been in fierce disagreement over this eucalyptus issue. According to the Pipeline Protection Law, plants with deep roots shall not be planted within a five-meter radius of the center line. It should be eradicated. But at the end of the day, it’s still money; and even if they remove them this time, there’s no guarantee that the villagers will plant them again in the future. Moreover, the property owners believe that with the anti-corrosion methods currently in use, eucalyptus trees cannot be damaged. What do you think? :dizzy:
