As the title says,
Carbon steel and stainless steel should not come into direct contact, as this can cause contamination of the stainless steel with iron elements

It’s better not to use carbon steel for the reinforcement ring; if a device made of 316 steel already has that, why not use stainless steel for this purpose as well? Using carbon steel will cause carburizing corrosion, leading to localized corrosion over time.

I fully agree with your view that stainless steel equipment housings cannot be directly welded to carbon steel reinforcement rings. If welding is necessary, a thinner stainless steel gasket should be used as an intermediary; otherwise, direct welding will cause carburization in the stainless steel housing, as well as intergranular corrosion. Just add a partition to the 316 material; there’s no need to worry about carbon infiltration. Remember to put rubber between carbon steel and stainless steel.
