Introduction to 6061 aluminum bars: The main alloying elements in 6061 aluminum bars are magnesium and silicon, which form Mg2Si. If a certain amount of manganese and chromium is present, it can counteract the negative effects of iron; sometimes a small amount of copper or zinc is added to increase the strength of the alloy without significantly reducing its corrosion resistance. Small amounts of copper are also included in conductive materials to offset the adverse effects of titanium and iron on electrical conductivity; zirconium or titanium can be used to refine the grain structure and control the recrystallization process. To improve machinability, lead and bismuth can be added. By dissolving Mg2Si in aluminum, the alloy acquires artificial aging hardening properties. The main alloying elements in 6061 aluminum bars are magnesium and silicon; it possesses moderate strength, good corrosion resistance, weldability, and favorable oxidation properties. 6061 aluminum bars are high-quality aluminum alloy products produced through a heat treatment and pre-stretching process. They possess excellent workability, good weldability and electroplating properties, strong corrosion resistance, high toughness, and no deformation after processing. The material is dense and defect-free, easy to polish, allows for easy application of coating films, and exhibits excellent oxidation resistance. 1. High-strength heat-treatable alloy. 2. Main uses of 6061 aluminum bars: 6061 aluminum bars are commonly used in aviation fixtures, trucks, tower structures, ships, pipelines, and other applications in construction where strength, weldability, and corrosion resistance are required. Such as: aircraft parts, gears and shafts, fuse components, instrument shafts and gears, missile parts, valve components, turbines, keys, aircraft, and applications in aviation and defense. Chemical composition of 6061 aluminum bars:Aluminum Al: remainder; Silicon Si: 0.40–0.8; Copper Cu: 0.15–0.4; Magnesium Mg: 0.80–1.2; Zinc Zn: 0.25; Manganese Mn: 0.15; Titanium Ti: 0.15; Iron Fe: 0.7; Chromium Cr: 0.04–0.35.
Mechanical properties of 6061 aluminum bars:
Tensile strength σb (MPa): 150–290; Elongation δ10 (%): 8–15.
Solubilization temperature of 6061 aluminum bars:
The solubilization temperature for 6061 aluminum bars is 530°C. Aging treatment of 6061 aluminum bars: For rolled products: 160°C × 18 hours; for extruded and forged products: 175°C × 18 hours. The international grade for 6061 aluminum bars is AlSi1Mg0.8; this designation makes it easy to understand its main composition – with aluminum as the primary element, silicon accounting for 1%, and magnesium accounting for 0.8%. In other words, it is an aluminum bar based on aluminum, magnesium, and silicon. The proportions of these metal elements indicate that this alloy possesses certain corrosion resistance and rust prevention properties. Thanks to the presence of silicon, 6061 aluminum bars also have a certain degree of wear resistance, with a moderate hardness that meets the requirements of standard industrial applications. It can be said to be quite commonly used in mold manufacturing. Currently, the commonly used model in China is: 6061-T6.
