For specific standards, there is no distinction between heavy and light types. This is due to differences in the product design standards, which result in varying weights. For example, stainless steel gate valves can be manufactured in accordance with API 600 or API 603, and their weights differ significantly between the two. Therefore, whether it is selection or procurement, the product standards must be determined first. Do not inquire about prices using only the product name and model; be sure to include the standard requirements as well.
On the Internet, there is a picture showing valves of the same specification and caliber but with different sizes. According to the standards, it should be the same, but nowadays manufacturers resort to various tactics in order to reduce costs, lower prices, and increase sales. Of course, in reputable large companies, the weight is definitely specified in the manual.
For the same model, if the standards differ, the weight will be different. For example, ASME16.34 and API600 – their dimensional specifications are based on ASME16.10, but the thickness of the valve bodies differs significantly, which results in a large difference in weight.
