Can machine seal grinding be done using sandpaper? If it can be used, what grade of sandpaper is needed?
What the poster is referring to is likely the grinding of friction pairs; using sandpaper definitely won’t work. 1; Grinding micro-powder 3.5um 2 ; It’s not possible to achieve a flatness of 0.6um with sandpaper
It won’t work no matter where grinding is done on the mating surface or friction pair surface~~ The precision of sandpaper is too low~~
Using sandpaper won’t work; you need to buy grinding powder and place it on thick glass, and if you’re working professionally, you should get a dedicated grinding platform.

The surfaces of the friction pairs in mechanical seals require high flatness and low roughness; it is difficult to achieve these requirements using conventional machining methods, so grinding and polishing are necessary to meet them. The flatness of the mechanical seal face shall not exceed 0.0009 mm, and its surface must be smooth. Different materials require different precision levels: cemented carbide requires 0.01 um, hard carbon 0.3 um, silicon carbide 0.05 um, aluminum oxide 0.05 um, and special copper 0.2 um. The lowest grade of sandpaper, at 0.5um, does not achieve the required precision.
You really save a ton of money. I have polished it; low requirements for sealing are fine. Also, there must be something like a valve-polishing machine – manually? Better save it
