In the calculations for mechanical seals, the height of the end face protrusion is usually reduced by 2–5 mm based on the material strength; there should be no chamfers on the inner and outer diameters of the end face. I don’t understand why chamfers are not allowed.
Regarding the issue of the surface area under stress, there is already not much area to begin with; adding chamfers will only reduce the area further. To compensate for the loss in area caused by the chamfers, it would be necessary to increase the size of the mechanical seal.
