What are the respective functions of flushing and cooling for mechanical seals? Is it one system or two separate systems? Thank you!
There is not much difference between the flushing and cooling of mechanical seals; both serve to cool the friction pairs in these seals. Mechanical seals can be of single-face or double-face type, and the media used for transmission can be either pure or contain particles. Flushing can be done by using the medium itself for cooling, or it can be achieved through external water supply for forced cooling. It is important to note that mechanical seals must never operate under dry conditions

Personally, I think it means the same thing. Taking the pumps in our factory as an example, there is only one point at the seal where external fluid or fluid pumped by the pump enters; the technicians also refer to this as flushing coolant.
