The conversion rate of cellulose into starch has been increased to 93.3%. Recently, the research team led by Researcher Zhang Yiheng at the Tianjin Institute of Industrial Biotechnology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, managed to raise the actual conversion rate of using all the carbon from cellulose to produce starch to 93.3%. This technology has achieved three innovations. The research team first developed a completely new energy circulation pathway; by innovatively designing mechanisms for the recovery, activation, and reuse of glucose, they overcame the problem of carbon loss, increasing the theoretical starch yield from 50% to 100%. Secondly, the team developed a more stable and efficient \"enzyme factory,\" identified a series of new enzyme components with high thermal stability, and increased the reaction temperature to 50°C, thereby speeding up the reactions and reducing the amount of enzyme required. Finally, by precisely coordinating and controlling the reaction system, the team transformed theoretical advantages into practical productivity, achieving an efficient conversion rate of 93.3%. This technology can not only produce ordinary starch, but also high-value starch with precisely controllable structure, showing application potential in high-end food, pharmaceutical, and material industries.
