Purpose of hydrostatic testing: To check the quality of the installation of equipment and pipelines, as well as whether their materials can withstand the highest pressures to which they are exposed. It is essential to carry out hydrostatic testing in accordance with relevant standards; pipelines and equipment that have already been tested for hydrostatic pressure in the manufacturing plant or before installation do not need to be tested again. II. Execution of the hydrostatic test: It is carried out by the installation crew. III. Method of the hydrostatic test: After filling the equipment and pipes to be tested with water, a test pump is used to apply pressure up to the specified level. IV. Precautions for hydrostatic testing 1. The equipment used for the test must be separated from the connected equipment under lower pressure by blind flanges, to prevent overpressure in the equipment at lower pressure. 2. The water quality used for hydrostatic testing must meet the requirements of relevant specifications; when using water for testing stainless steel equipment and pipelines, it is necessary to monitor and control the levels of Cl- and SiO2. 3. Equipment and pipelines that do not require hydrostatic testing are separated from the testing system. 4. During the test, safety valves and rupture discs should be isolated from the equipment using blind flanges or removed from the system. The safety valve must be reinstalled on the equipment only after it has passed the testing. 5. The instrument pipelines, analysis sampling pipelines, waste discharge pipelines, etc., associated with the equipment should undergo hydrostatic testing along with the equipment itself, but all instruments must be removed in advance. 6. When testing shell-and-tube heat exchange equipment under pressure, the pressure difference between the tube side and the shell side must not exceed the values permitted by the design.
