I would like to ask the experts here. As a pipeline materials engineer at my previous company, when preparing the pipeline grade table, for all stainless steel fittings with a DN size of 40 or less, socket welding was not used instead weld butt jointing was employed. I wonder if this was due to considerations related to corrosion, or because GC1 pipelines cannot be welded using the socket welding method, or is there some other reason? Thank you very much
The reason for using butt welding instead of socket welding may be that butt welds provide better sealing and strength, making them suitable for high-pressure and high-temperature conditions, whereas socket welding may pose risks of corrosion and leakage, especially in small-diameter stainless steel pipes.
