【History of Haichuan Chemical Industry】The Yellow River Crossing of the Shaanxi-Beijing Natural Gas Pipeline

The Shaanxi-Beijing natural gas pipeline system is an important part of the national natural gas network, with a total length of over 5,584 kilometers (the latest figure being 5,599 kilometers). Its designed annual transportation capacity is 80 billion cubic meters. The gas supply covers six provinces and municipalities, namely Shaanxi, Inner Mongolia, Shanxi, Hebei, Beijing, and Tianjin, serving more than 70 cities along the route as well as thousands of large and medium-sized enterprises. The system is primarily composed of the First, Second, Third, and Fourth Shaanxi-Beijing pipelines, forming a layout of \"five main routes to Beijing\" along with a pipeline network surrounding Beijing. Since its commissioning in 1997, it has operated safely and steadily, and as of February 2026, the total volume of gas transported has exceeded 800 billion cubic meters. The system has a daily gas transmission capacity of around 200 million cubic meters, with a peak capacity of 309 million cubic meters per day; it meets over 95% of the natural gas demands of Beijing, the capital city, and is interconnected with various major pipeline networks such as those for transporting gas from the west to the east and from the north to the south. The cumulative gas supply is equivalent to replacing approximately 1.07 billion tons of standard coal, resulting in a reduction of over 1.1 billion tons of carbon dioxide emissions, thereby delivering significant environmental benefits. By 2025, a dedicated natural gas supply line has been planned and constructed for Xiongan New Area to further enhance the region’s gas supply reliability.
