The new S-Zorb catalyst developed by SINOPEC Research Institute of Petrochemistry passed the evaluation

According to the website of the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission, China Development Net reported on April 10 that a research and development project for a new type of S-Zorb catalyst (a catalyst used for adsorptive desulfurization of gasoline), carried out by the Sinopec Research Institute of Petroleum Science, has passed the technical evaluation organized by Sinopec’s Science and Technology Department. To date, 11 patent applications have been filed, granting independent intellectual property rights. S-Zorb technology is one of the key core technologies for producing National 5 standard gasoline in China at present. Researchers at the Institute of Rock Mechanics utilized molecular simulation techniques to determine the formula for catalysts with high desulfurization activity and high stability. They developed an industrial production process for such catalysts, addressing issues such as catalyst deactivation due to the formation of zinc silicate and an increase in the amount of fine powder during industrial use. As a result, new types of highly stable catalysts were created, featuring significantly improved performance and reduced costs. The pilot-scale evaluation results show that under hydrothermal aging conditions, the new FCAS-II catalyst has a higher reaction activation energy for the formation of zinc silicate, enabling continuous and stable production. This will provide reliable technical support for the subsequent production of National VI clean gasoline as well as for improving the quality and efficiency of enterprises.
