Concepts need to be updated; nowadays, stop valves in high-pressure systems are basically installed in the reverse direction (compared to traditional methods), that is, with the high pressure side at the upper end and the low pressure side at the lower end. The reason is the excellent sealing performance (which goes without explanation, right?). This turns out to be true indeed; the downside is that the packing is under pressure when closed, but it’s not a major issue – modern advanced packing seals more than suffice for this purpose.

The correct and reverse installation of control valves refers to the mounting position of the valve spool in straight-through double-seat control valves and straight-through single-seat control valves. The direct-acting two-seat control valve, having two spools and valve seats as well as a dual-guidance structure, allows for easy reversal of the normal installation orientation of the spools: simply reverse the spools, connect the stem to the lower end of the spools, and swap the positions of the upper and lower valve seats to change the installation method. For straight-through single-seat control valves with a diameter larger than DN25 mm, the valve spool also features a dual-guidance structure; by changing the connection position between the valve stem and the valve spool, it is possible to install the valve in either forward or reverse orientation. When the direct-acting two-seat control valve is installed in the correct orientation, the spool moves downward, reducing the flow area between the spool and the valve seat ; During reverse installation, the valve core moves downward, increasing the flow area between the valve core and the valve seat.
