As winter approaches, water tends to accumulate in certain areas; to prevent the equipment from being damaged by freezing, it is necessary to drain this water regularly. What are the guidelines regarding the frequency of draining water to prevent freezing in your facility?
In areas where water accumulation occurs, for those that are not in use, the flanges should be removed or vents should be used to drain all the water. For those that need to be in use, vents or heating systems should be installed; the operation of these vents is determined by the temperature – if the temperature remains at -2 degrees for two consecutive days, it is appropriate to open the vents to prevent freezing. Steam vents also operate based on temperature.
Equipment and pipelines that are not in use should preferably have their media drained and isolated using blind flanges; those equipped with heating systems should have the heating turned on to prevent overheating, while those without such systems should be kept under continuous drainage.

I really haven’t considered that; freezing hasn’t occurred in winter.
Where are your installations located? We are in a refinery in the north, where temperatures can drop to -15 degrees during winter
I’ve never been to the refineries in your Northeast region – are all the pipelines there insulated with heat tracing?
Basically, that’s the case, except for some materials with a low freezing point; especially in winter, heat tracing needs to be checked during each shift
