Issues related to the treatment of heavy metals in crude oil

Our plant has 2 million tons per year of Tahe heavy oil; after vacuum treatment, the residue and wax oils are fed into catalytic units, but the nickel and vanadium contents are too high, preventing the catalysts from functioning. I’ve heard that solvent extraction can help reduce these metal levels. Is it true? Please give some advice!
