Is it okay as long as it doesn’t reach the overspeed shutdown value?
There is usually a range, meaning that there is still some margin in terms of rotational speed! The issue is primarily considered from the perspective of the equipment, in order to prevent the potential hazards that arise from the equipment remaining in a critical state continuously!
The current situation is that the speed exceeds the rated value, but it is still a long way from the speed at which tripping occurs
When a turbine speeds up excessively, it becomes difficult to control the speed of the unit, which has a significant impact on the manufacturing process and can be fatal to the equipment itself. Generally, overspeed tests are conducted under no-load conditions; therefore, if the unit operates at an overspeed for an extended period of time, even if it does not reach the tripping speed, it can still cause damage to the bearing shells, as well as to the seals and thrust bearings.
