For alkali-based flue gas desulfurization, at what location should the alkaline solution be injected – separately into the tower or together with other substances such as water? What are the advantages and disadvantages of each approach?
An aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide seems more appropriate; adding soda ash does not help maintain the alkalinity balance of the circulating fluid

Sodium hydroxide solution is injected into the brine at the bottom of the tower to control the pH value there.
We enter the absorption tower separately and live directly in the slurry at the bottom of the tower
Generally, a 30% sodium hydroxide solution. There are quite a few injection points; I’m not sure what equipment you have for desulfurization. There must be one at the bottom of the tower.
Our desulfurization and denitrification system consists of SCAR+EDV+PTU. The desulfurization scrubber essentially involves an acid-base neutralization reaction; the pH value is adjusted by controlling the amount of alkali added, thereby ensuring that the exhaust gases meet regulatory standards before being released. The locations for injecting the alkaline solution are the bottom washing section and the filtration module, with most of the alkaline solution being injected into the bottom washing section. Our system samples a 30% NaOH solution and feeds it into the tower separately. If water is introduced together, it will inevitably lead to a decrease in the concentration of the alkaline solution, requiring an increase in the amount injected; there is no need to introduce both at the same time
Can adding this along with water reduce the concentration of the alkaline solution? They enter the tower together; even if they are added separately, they mix inside the tower and this helps to reduce the concentration of the alkaline solution
They are all injected separately into the wash tower circulation fluid; the pH value is adjusted to 6–7.5 by controlling the amount of alkali added, thereby ensuring that the exhaust gases meet the required emission standards. The locations for injecting the alkaline solution are the bottom washing section and the filtration module, with most of the alkaline solution being injected into the bottom washing section. A 30% NaoH solution is fed into the tower alone. Compliance with emission standards is primarily ensured through the filtration module and the circulating liquid in the scrubber tower.
Are there any hazards to sending it into the tower along with process water?
Didn’t I say it? There’s no need to go in with both of them; going in alone is enough. Going in together is just like taking off one’s pants to fart – there’s no need for that, and it also increases the costs associated with pipeline installation and maintenance
