If the catalytic slurry circulation is interrupted for an extended period, should the reactor be operated in fluidized mode or with a dead bed? Thank you.
There are definitely both options; it depends on the interruption duration – how quickly it can be resolved!
It is generally recommended that the fluidization time of a catalyst in a single container not exceed 24 hours, otherwise significant catalyst loss will occur.
It mainly depends on the interruption time; even with a single catalyst, its activity degrades very rapidly when exposed to such prolonged periods. Replacing the catalyst later on is also particularly troublesome; it is advisable to use a bed seal instead.
If the bed temperature can be maintained, keep the bed in that state; if not, spray combustion oil to fluidize the unit.
