Should the oil slurry transfer pump for the catalytic unit use a circulating oil slurry pump, or should a separate oil slurry transfer pump be installed?
Modern designs generally include a separate slurry transfer pump to prevent interference between the flow rates! However, due to the use of older equipment here, there is no separate transfer pump; instead, the discharge of the oil slurry is controlled manually in order to minimize the impact on the circulation volume!
Ours uses a circulating slurry pump for external discharge; having a separate metering system should make control easier.
This device features a DN80 pipeline connected after the slurry heat exchange system for external discharge; the pressure from the slurry pump, at 1.5 MPa, is more than sufficient to ensure proper operation in the tank area
We keep the external discharge rate at 4 t/h, the circulation rate at 580 t/h, and the solid content in the slurry around 2.5. In my opinion, this has little impact on the circulation rate. What is the external discharge rate of your facility?
I have seen both approaches: 1. Using a circulating slurry pump, which can handle both circulation and discharge tasks without any problems, and it operates well. 2. Circulation and external discharge are separated; I have seen a successful case where an external discharge pump was added later as part of a technical upgrade project. After the slurry circulation was interrupted, external discharge functioned properly, preventing an accident involving the shutdown of the feed supply. Now both solutions should be in use in production, each with its own advantages. Everyone can share their thoughts and learn from one another*.
We all have them, but the external discharge pumps are not turned on under normal circumstances. They are activated only during operation, or when the amount of slurry to be discharged is particularly large due to changes in the production plan (one pump in use and one as a backup). In extreme cases, both external discharge pumps may be started.
The circulating slurry pumps designed in the past had relatively high pressures in order to accommodate the function of external discharge; now, with the introduction of pumps for external discharge, it is possible to design the pressures of the circulating slurry pumps to be lower, thereby saving energy
