Regular comparisons are necessary: our internal operations record the DCS-level readings, while external operations record the actual level at the site; when there are significant changes, rechecks are carried out promptly. Technicians conduct full comparisons at each shift, not only for levels but also for pressures. For areas without an on-site liquid level, the accuracy is determined by changes in the trend.
My understanding is that the readings on the on-site instruments should correspond to those shown on the remote DCS, which is presumably a requirement of the system design itself. Mutual verification is also intended to avoid the risk of misjudgment due to display errors; that’s why the original poster said as well that “comparing internal and external data has many advantages”
