Colleagues, I am planning to work at a large private integrated petrochemical company in China! That company is building a factory, and I would like to ask what tasks the equipment engineer is mainly responsible for during the early and intermediate stages of factory construction. Do anyone with experience have any advice? Since I used to work in a state-owned enterprise, my knowledge regarding project construction is basically non-existent
Our company is generally involved in reviewing design drawings, conducting technical tenders for equipment related to installation construction, holding technical tenders for construction teams, tracking and submitting material information, managing technology and quality control at construction sites, inspecting key components, handling changes related to on-site construction, carrying out completion inspections of installations, and testing the operational performance of these installations.
Part 1: Initial equipment procurement, including long-cycle equipment, key equipment, as well as rotating equipment, heat exchangers, and towers. Individual private enterprises also entrust equipment engineers with the procurement of pipelines and flanges, including research, signing of technical agreements, bidding, manufacturing supervision, and pre-shipment testing. Part Two: Preparation of basic documents, which mainly includes reviewing the construction plan and lifting plan, as well as preparing a trial operation plan; in some private enterprises, the lifting plan is prepared by equipment engineers. Part Three: Construction acceptance and on-site coordination: This mainly includes the installation and acceptance of large-scale equipment, inspections of key construction quality aspects, submission of materials, coordination of issues that arise during on-site construction, as well as the acceleration of the delivery of materials and equipment. Part Four: Installation and commissioning of large-scale equipment. Commissioning includes DCS configuration, CCS configuration, etc., as well as single-unit testing and interlock tests. The scope of work assigned to equipment engineers by each unit during the project construction period varies slightly, but generally there are not significant differences. I’m not from the equipment field; I work in process engineering. I was just fortunate enough to participate in the construction and commissioning of the installation.
