At present, my facility mixes in inferior oil grades such as reduced second-line oil and light and heavy contaminated oil during crude oil processing, resulting in salt content levels after purification exceeding the limit by >3 mg/L (the values are around 4 to 5 mg/L). The corresponding operating parameters are: water injection of 32 t/H, primary mixing pressure of 120 KPa, secondary mixing pressure of 200 KPa, and the temperature of crude oil entering the electrical desalination tank at 130°C. I was wondering if any of you who work in the chemical industry have encountered similar situations, and if you can recommend any demulsifiers that have proven effective in such cases? Or, data optimization can be achieved through parameter adjustment
Crude oil is selective regarding demulsifiers; a demulsifier that works well for crude oil type A may not be effective for crude oil type B. It is necessary to choose a demulsifier based on the type of crude oil you have, or based on the crude oil combined with contaminated oil. First, select a set of demulsifiers and test their effectiveness in the laboratory using your crude oil (or crude oil mixed with contaminated oil), and then proceed with industrial testing
Due to the wide variety of crude oils used in our factory, which need to be changed almost every week, the requirements for demulsifiers are relatively low – what’s important is that they have a broad spectrum of effectiveness! It would be simple to select a demulsifier specific to each type of crude oil, but this is not practical given the current processing conditions in our plant.
