China’s first 500,000-ton per year ethylene glycol plant built using domestic technology has been put into operation in Dezhou, with an annual output value of 2.5 billion yuan. According to a report from Qilu Net in Dezhou on October 10, China’s first large-scale ethylene glycol plant with an annual production capacity of 500,000 tons, constructed using domestic technology, was recently put into operation by Shandong Hualu Hengsheng Chemical Co., Ltd. It set the record for the shortest startup time among domestic ethylene glycol plants. The project requires an investment of 2.67 billion yuan; construction began at the end of 2016. Once operational, it will generate annual sales revenue of 2.5 billion yuan and profits and taxes amounting to 500 million yuan. It is understood that China has long relied on imports for ethylene glycol. Hualu Hengsheng conducted research using the purified gas from low-temperature methanol washing units as raw material, and adopted an advanced process technology for the indirect production of ethylene glycol from syngas. At the end of 2016, construction began on an ethylene glycol plant with an annual capacity of 500,000 tons; this was the first large-scale ethylene glycol plant in China to be built using domestic technology. After nearly two years of construction, the main unit was completed in September, and the entire system’s processes were operational on October 1, with a successful first start-up. On October 2, the production load of the plant was increased to 50%, and the quality of the ethylene glycol product reached top-grade standards, setting a record for the shortest startup time among ethylene glycol plants in China. On October 8, the production load of the facility reached 70%, with a 100% rate of high-quality products. The company is currently optimizing operating conditions and adjusting production targets in order to gradually increase the load.
