There are mainly two possibilities for water loss in pipe networks: leaks in the main pipelines, wastewater discharge, and water release from user systems. Based on years of operational experience, it can be concluded that the water loss caused by leaks in the main pipeline accounts for no more than 2% of the total circulating flow at its highest ; Meanwhile, the discount offered to users is as high as 8-10% or more. When the water loss in the pipeline network is excessive and cannot be effectively controlled, it will have a severe impact on heating supply for users in that area, potentially even leading to a suspension of heating services.
1. When water is released, what is actually released is heat. Significant water loss from the piping network (as a result of multiple users turning on water) causes the water supply pressure in the entire area to drop, preventing the system from functioning properly (insufficient pressure prevents water from reaching higher floors), which results in no heat or only weak heat in the users’ homes. Although the temperature in the homes of those who turn on the water rises temporarily, due to the lack of water in the pipeline network, the unattended monitoring system at the heat exchange station automatically supplies new cold water until the water pressure returns to normal levels. This **lowers the water temperature in the pipeline network, affecting the temperature in the homes of users throughout the entire neighborhood, and indirectly leading to an increase in the number of users who do not have hot water. If the newly added \"cold users\" also start to waste water, this will exacerbate the water loss problem, ultimately leading to a collapse of the entire water supply system and an inability to provide heating.
II. One instance of water theft results in heat theft in three other locations within the area. The staff adjusted the balance of the condition from the heat exchange station to the users’ homes at the beginning of the heating period. When some users increase the temperature in their homes by releasing heat in order to make it \"warmer,\" the flow of heat in their own homes increases naturally, and as a result, the flow of heat in the homes of other users who share the same heating system decreases. This leads to colder conditions in those other users’ homes; in effect, it is an indirect form of heat theft.
III. Water loss can cause severe damage to heating equipment. Prolonged or excessive water loss can cause temporary shutdown or damage to the equipment, thereby creating unnecessary cycles of maintenance and replacement. During these cycles, normal heating cannot be ensured, and in some cases the equipment may even lose its heating capacity.
I didn’t know this knowledge before. If it gets cold at home, water is turned on; imagine if every household did that, it would indeed put a lot of strain on the system.
Previously, there were some shops on the first floor facing the street that used hot water for washing and similar purposes. Later, thermal power plants added odors or coloring agents to the hot water used for heating, which reduced the incidence of unauthorized use of that hot water.
