EDI systems are widely used in pure water production processes across various industries due to their high desalination efficiency. The core system chosen for ultra-pure water equipment used in electroplating and coating processes is usually an EDI system. To ensure the quality of water required in these industries, most companies opt for a combination of reverse osmosis and EDI devices; the purity of water produced by this process can reach high levels suitable for industrial use. In recent decades, the ultra-pure water used in the electroplating and coating industry has mostly been obtained at the cost of the environment, through the extensive use of acids and bases. Acids and bases can cause certain pollution to the environment due to their inherent properties during the preparation, storage, and transportation of ultra-pure water; they can also corrode equipment, thereby reducing its service life. This phenomenon has gradually improved since the widespread use of reverse osmosis systems; the use of these systems reduces the amount of acids and bases required in the purification of water, thereby minimizing the risk of equipment corrosion by acids and bases and also reducing the likelihood of wastewater contamination. As the environment deteriorates, businesses and experts have begun to reevaluate traditional methods of producing pure water using acids and bases. After extensive research, it was found that the combination of reverse osmosis and EDI systems far surpasses the acid-base-based methods for purifying water, representing advanced technologies suited to the needs of modern society.
