The Jinjiang River (from Dujiangyan to Huanglongxi along the Min River) is the mother river of Chengdu, Sichuan, as well as an important ecological corridor. The length of its main stream is approximately 150 kilometers, while its drainage area covers about 2,009 square kilometers. In recent years, with strong support from the Ministry of Water Resources as well as the Sichuan Provincial Party Committee and Government, Chengdu has made the comprehensive management of the Jinjiang River a top priority in its ecological environment development efforts. By partnering with China Communications Construction Co., Ltd., Chengdu Culture and Tourism Group, and the platform companies of the ten districts and counties along the Jinjiang River, Chengdu established the Jinjiang River Company, with the goal of creating a livable riverside area characterized by clean waters and vibrant vitality. Through continuous efforts, significant progress has been made in the management of the Jinjiang River basin, laying a new foundation for the development of water ecological civilization in the new era. Data shows that since the implementation of governance measures, the High-Tech Zone in Chengdu has closed 70 enterprises that were considered to be sources of pollution in the Jinjiang River basin. The goal is to turn it into a cultural axis that reflects Chengdu’s thousand-year history, an ecological axis that ensures sustainable natural environments, a landscape axis that integrates urban green spaces, an economic axis driven by greenway development, and a leisure axis that offers comfort and relaxation. To date, Jinjiang Company has completed the construction of 56.7 kilometers of greenways, linking 16 parks, scenic areas, and distinctive neighborhoods, thereby creating approximately 8 square kilometers of waterfront open spaces. Important sites such as the Music Square, Cuifeng Garden, and Riverbank Park have already been established.
