The ethylene products produced by ethylene plants are mostly in a low-temperature liquid state, and there are two main methods for storing them: pressurization and cryogenic storage. 1 Pressurized storage involves storing liquid ethylene in spherical tanks under pressure; this storage method is suitable for intermediate storage tanks, where the liquid ethylene is vaporized back in the ethylene plant and then sent to downstream facilities such as those for producing PP and PE. 2 Low-temperature storage involves storing liquid ethylene in low-temperature tanks under normal pressure and low temperatures. This storage method is suitable for storage tanks used to hold finished products; the liquid ethylene stored in this way has a high density, and thus the storage volume required for the same amount of material is smaller compared to the pressure-based storage method, which facilitates commercial distribution via ocean shipping.
