Recently, the water transport trial of the newly built Jinmin refined oil pipeline by Sinopec Shanghai was a success. This pipeline serves as an important transportation route for refined gasoline and diesel from the Minhang oil depot of Shanghai Petroleum. Once completed and put into use, it will further enhance the capacity of Shanghai Petrochemical and Shanghai Petroleum to supply refined products, thereby expanding the scope of their product distribution. It is reported that Shanghai Petrochemical’s existing Jinmin refined oil pipeline was put into operation in 2004, with a transport capacity of around 1.2 million tons per year, which is insufficient to meet the growing demand for refined oil in the market. To further enhance its capacity for transporting refined oil products, Sinopec Shanghai started construction in January 2021 on the Jinmin Refined Oil Pipeline, which has a transport capacity of 3 million tons per year. The pipeline begins at Workshop 5 of Sinopec Shanghai’s storage and transportation department and ends at the Minhang Oil Depot; it is 61 kilometers long, passing through four districts namely Jinshan, Fengxian, Songjiang, and Minhang. The construction of the main part of this pipeline was completed in July 2024. The successful water transport test of the Jinmin refined oil pipeline not only allowed for a thorough cleaning of the pipeline, thereby minimizing risks during oil transportation, but also fully verified the reliability and safety of the entire pipeline system, laying a foundation for its official operation in the future.
