News from June 26, 2025: Recently, the expansion project for the eastern area of the external tank farm at Shenghong Refining & Chemicals (Lianyungang) Co., Ltd. reached a key milestone, as three large crude oil storage tanks with a capacity of 100,000 cubic meters successfully passed the water filling test. This water-filling test is a challenging task; it takes nearly 20 days to fill a single tank, and about 10 days to drain it. Faced with such a large volume of work, the owner and project team discussed the matter and decided to adopt an innovative \"water circulation relay\" approach – once the first tank passed the water filling test, water was immediately diverted to the next storage tank, enabling seamless and continuous operation. At present, all 3 storage tanks have successfully passed the tests; 2 of them have completed drainage, and the last one is in the process of drainage, with completion expected by the end of June. Subsequently, construction tasks such as anti-corrosion work will be carried out in an orderly manner. To address the issue of limited freshwater resources in the tank area, the project team boldly used seawater for filling tests, and by implementing protective measures such as temporarily adding sacrificial anodes, they successfully overcame the problem of seawater corroding the tank bodies. The inspection results of the tank after the test showed \"no significant corrosion.\" This approach not only ensures the quality of the project rigorously but also puts the concept of green construction into practice; by saving freshwater resources and reducing construction costs, it achieves a win-win situation in terms of economic and ecological benefits. As the first large-scale storage tank design project of 100,000 cubic meters undertaken independently by the Shenyang branch, the person in charge of the equipment team led the professional design team to successfully overcome the key challenges associated with such large-scale tank design, and completed all design tasks on schedule. The successful completion of the water filling tests for these 3 storage tanks signifies that Shenyang Company now possesses full capability in the independent design of large-scale storage tanks, having gained valuable experience that will help it enter the broader market for designing such large storage facilities.
