The ring reactor R3002 of China’s first 450,000 tons per year polypropylene plant, constructed using modular technology developed in-house, was successfully hoisted into place. This is 15 days earlier than the original plan. At the lifting site, once the lifting instructions were given, the operation to position the equipment began. In just 15 minutes, the core equipment, with a net weight of 350 tons and a total lifting weight of 385 tons, was accurately placed in position. It is reported that to ensure the quality of construction, transportation, and lifting of the loop reactor, PMT2, the general contractor, the construction team, and the supervision unit carried out preparatory work in advance. During the construction process, PMT2 assigned dedicated personnel to closely monitor the construction quality. Once the loop reactor arrived at the site, the project team abandoned the traditional approach of first lifting the loop reactor to a high position in order to carry out welding of its various components and accessories, as well as carrying out work related to labor protection and insulation. Innovation lies in adopting a modular construction method: first, two supports are fixed on the ground, after which the various components of the reactor, its accessories, and insulation materials are installed to form a complete module. During the official lifting operation, a 2,000-ton crawler crane is used as the main lifting device, while a 400-ton crawler crane is used to assist in lifting; the two machines work together to carry out the lifting using the \"direct lifting method\". According to Sang Yonghui, the person in charge of the polypropylene unit at the Tarim Phase II ethylene project, this lifting operation involved several technological innovations: for the first time, ladders, platforms, and guardrails were integrated into the lifting process as part of the reactor’s main structure. The modular assembly of the two loop reactor units (R3001 and R3002) on the ground took only 30 days, and the electrical components and instrumentation related to the reactors were also installed simultaneously.
