Major breakthrough achieved in the second phase of China Coal Yulin gasification project! 2025-09-03 Recently, the second-phase gasification project of China Coal Yulin, undertaken by the Northwest Branch of China National Chemical Engineering 16th Construction Co., Ltd., achieved a major breakthrough: the concrete pouring for the 100.2-meter-high core structure of the gasification facility was successfully completed. The achievement of this key milestone not only marks a new phase in the construction of the main structure of the project, but also lays a solid foundation for completing the construction of the main structure, which has a total height of 105 meters. The gasifier adopts the AP (GE) semi-waste-boiler process with cooling, and is equipped with a water-coal slurry radial syngas cooler (RSC); this represents a large-scale demonstration project for the pressure-based gasification of water-coal slurry using the AP (GE) semi-waste-boiler process. For the second phase of China Coal’s project, 4 water-coal slurry gasification units are to be constructed, with one additional unit reserved for future use. The nominal processing capacity of each unit is 2,860 tons of dry coal per day, resulting in a total effective gas output (CO+H2) of 616,000 m3/h ; 5 sets of coal grinding units are provided, with 1 additional set reserved. The preliminary investment estimate for the China Coal Yulin Coal Deep Processing Base project is 23.888 billion yuan. The main construction components include 2.2 million tons per year of methanol and 900,000 tons per year of polyolefins; at the same time, the existing first-phase coal chemical plant will be optimized and upgraded, with the construction of a project for the production of 250,000 tons per year of LDPE/EVA through chain extension and addition, along with related facilities. The main units of the project include air separation, gasification, purification, sulfur recovery, methanol synthesis, MTO, olefin separation, 3 polyolefin units, and 1 EVA unit, among others. Completion of construction and commissioning are expected by mid-2026. Once the project is put into operation, it will effectively promote local economic and social development as well as the optimization and upgrading of the industrial structure; during peak periods, it can create employment opportunities for tens of thousands of people.
