On September 24, 2025, the management committee of Hubei Public Security Economic Development Zone issued a notice announcing the winner of the bid for the land preparation project related to the CGN green methanol project. The winning bidder was Yuhua Construction Engineering Co., Ltd. of Gong’an County, with the bid amount being 662,756.34 yuan. Construction contents: The site grading work mainly includes excavating and grading 22,098.29 cubic meters of soil, backfilling 8,029.93 cubic meters, as well as the disposal of the excavated soil; the construction period is 60 days. On June 11, the registration details for a 23.7MW photovoltaic project intended to support CGN Gong’an County Green Methanol Integrated Project (Phase 1: off-grid hydrogen production project) were made public. The photovoltaic power plant is planned to be equipped with 50,008 N-type high-efficiency monocrystalline silicon bifacial modules, each with a standard power output of 620 Wp. The installed DC capacity amounts to 31.005 MWp, while the AC capacity is 23.7 MW. The capacity ratio of the project is approximately 1.308. All electricity generated will be utilized for an water electrolysis hydrogen production system; no electricity will be fed into the grid. The total investment for the project is 100 million yuan. On June 11, the 8.19MW/32.6MWh electrochemical energy storage project that supports China General Nuclear Group’s Gong’an County green methanol integrated project (Phase 1 off-grid hydrogen production project) was also subject to registration and public disclosure. The project includes the construction of an energy storage facility with a capacity of 8.19MW/32.6MWh, which is connected to the 35kV bus side of the hydrogen production station. The energy storage system consists of 2 prefabricated units for 5MWPCS boost converters, 4 prefabricated battery units with a capacity of 5MWh each, and 3 prefabricated battery units with a capacity of 4.179MWh each; the total investment in this facility is 20 million yuan. CGN New Energy Gong’an County Co., Ltd., established in 2022 and a member of China General Nuclear Group, is located in Jingzhou City, Hubei Province. It is an enterprise focused on the production and supply of electricity and heat. The registered capital of the company is 408.1 million RMB.
CGN’s green methanol project initiatives: The green methanol project in Fan County, Puyang, Henan Province, operated by CGN New Energy. This project utilizes a biomass gasification fluidized bed technology combined with green hydrogen to produce 200,000 tons of green methanol per year. On February 25, an announcement was issued for the procurement of technical consultation services related to the feasibility study of CGN New Energy’s project in Puyang, Henan, which aims to produce 200,000 tons of green methanol per year; the proposed supplier is Aerospace Changzheng Chemical Engineering Co., Ltd. On September 3, the regional headquarters for green methanol production in northern Henan under CGN New Energy was approved for establishment; the approval reference number is 2509-410902-04-01-472566. The first phase of CGN’s integrated wind, solar, hydrogen production and methanol production project in Horqin Right Front Banner involves an investment of 7.14 billion yuan. It entails the construction of 1 million kilowatts of wind power capacity for hydrogen production, along with 150,000 kilowatts of energy storage capacity and 256.3 tons of compressed gaseous hydrogen storage facilities. The green hydrogen produced will be used entirely in CGN’s project in Xingan League, which aims to produce 400,000 tons of biomass-based green methanol per year. On July 18, the CGN Horqin Right Front Banner wind-solar hydrogen production and alcohol integration project (the hydrogen production facility part) was approved for registration. The project site is located in the Xingan League Economic and Technological Development Zone. The land area allocated for the project is approximately 500 mu. The hydrogen production facility comprises 7 hydrogen production plants, equipped with a total of 55 alkaline electrolyzers with a capacity of 2,000 cubic meters each. The maximum hydrogen production capacity is 112,000 cubic meters per hour, allowing for an annual hydrogen production volume of 55,600 tons. 23 hydrogen storage tanks with a capacity of 2,000 cubic meters each are installed, resulting in a total hydrogen storage capacity of 440,000 standard cubic meters; the effective operating time of the electrolyzers is 5,558.14 hours. On March 6, the modification to the first phase of the CGN’s one-million-ton methanol project in Balin Left Banner, Chifeng City was approved and registered. This phase involves the annual production of 200,000 tons of biomass-based methanol. The total investment for this project is 948 million yuan, with a designed methanol production capacity of 200,000 tons per year. On September 18, the environmental impact assessment document for the pilot-scale R&D platform project for 10,000-ton-class high-efficiency biomass gasification technology developed by CGN Bazhou Left Banner was made public for review. This project is a comprehensive technical experimentation and R&D initiative aimed at addressing the key fundamental and engineering challenges in the biomass pretreatment – powder production and transportation – gasification process. It involves the construction of a set of straw pretreatment experimental equipment with a capacity of 2 tons per hour, as well as a gasification test bench; in addition, auxiliary facilities such as a control room, an analysis laboratory, and storage areas are also built.
