Recently, the Ras Al Khair Phosphate Fertilizer Project of Saudi Mining Company, undertaken by the Saudi branch of China National Third Chemical Engineering Construction Corporation, held a celebration marking 5 million safe working hours. Representatives of the owner, the management company team, and representatives of the construction parties were all present to witness this milestone moment. Since the project commenced, all members of the branch’s project team have adhered to the principle of \"safety first, life above all.\" They have actively implemented the company’s policies regarding occupational health, safety, and environmental management, taking full responsibility for ensuring safe production. By adopting a dual-prevention approach that includes risk classification and control as well as the identification of potential hazards, they have carried out initiatives such as the \"Thunder Action\" for safe production and the creation of \"star-rated standard construction sites.\" They have also organized \"5S\" management activities, provided extensive safety training, and continuously enhanced the safety awareness of all employees. These efforts have led to a significant improvement in the standards of civilized construction, as well as the implementation of various safety measures. As a result, the goal of achieving \"zero accidents\" in production has been accomplished, which has been highly recognized by the client and the management company. The team was awarded a medal worth 5 million units of safety hours by the client. The Ras Al Khair phosphate fertilizer project is located in the Ras Al Khair area on the eastern coast of the Gulf of Saudi Arabia, with an estimated construction period of 22 months. As an important project in the global phosphate fertilizer industry, its completion will further enhance Saudi Arabia’s global competitiveness in the fields of mining and fertilizers, thereby strengthening its international position in the area of mineral resources. The project team will take 5 million safe working hours as a new starting point, continuing to uphold the spirit of teamwork and continuous improvement, to ensure that the project is completed safely, with high quality, and efficiently.
The dryer to be lifted this time is a key piece of equipment for the project; it has a complex structure and large size, making its lifting quite challenging. The dryer has an inner diameter of about 4.9 meters, a total length of around 35 meters, and a weight of 398 tons. The main equipment cylinder is lifted in sections; the upstream cylinder weighs 116 tons, while the downstream cylinder weighs 147 tons. At the same time, precise installation of the upstream support, downstream support, drive frame, ring gear, and housing accessories is carried out. Since the dryer cylinder needed to be installed at a specific inclination angle, the lifting team overcame technical challenges by carefully designing a lifting plan. Through meticulous controls such as real-time monitoring of lifting stresses and dynamic adjustment of the boom angle, they ensured the safe and efficient installation of the equipment. This demonstrated the project team’s excellent technical skills, strong collaborative abilities, as well as China Chemical Sanhua Construction’s comprehensive competitiveness in lifting large-scale equipment. The successful lifting of the dryer has laid a solid foundation for the subsequent installation of process pipelines, electrical instruments, and other components. Meanwhile, the sandblasting and anti-corrosion work for the project pipeline has also been fully launched, further accelerating the overall construction progress of the project.
In early June 2025, the Ras Al Khair Phosphate Fertilizer Project undertaken by China National Third Chemical Engineering Construction Company for Saudi Mining Company reached a key milestone: the main structures of the granulation buildings in Area K (K011) and Area J (J021) were successfully completed, marking a partial success in the project’s civil engineering works. The successive completion of the two granulation buildings has created essential working areas for the subsequent installation of steel structures, equipment, and pipelines, marking the official transition of the project from the civil construction phase to the installation phase. While progress is being made on the main structure, construction in other key areas of the project is also advancing simultaneously: the foundation work for the 0040 and 0041 finished goods warehouses is progressing smoothly, and supporting facilities such as substations and utility tunnels are also being developed at the same time. The installation of underground pipes in the JK equipment area is largely complete, and work on prefabricating pipes, temporary supports, pipe supports, and flues in the prefabrication site is also underway step by step. By adjusting the construction organization plan, optimizing the machinery scheduling strategy, and coordinating the work of over 1,700 Chinese and foreign employees on site, the project team ensured the successful achievement of all scheduled deadlines.
