Sinochem wins contract for first offshore LNG refueling center project in Middle East, according to China Infrastructure News dated May 15, 2025. Recently, Sinochem’s Sanhua Construction won the contract for the general construction work of the first phase of the MARSA LNG project in Oman. Located in Musandam Port, Oman, the project will, upon completion, become one of the world’s LNG plants with the lowest carbon intensity (carbon dioxide emissions per unit of GDP), and it will also make Musandam the first LNG refueling center in the Middle East. With an investment of $1.6 billion, this project will be able to serve ships passing by and cover the entire Middle East as well as the Indian Ocean shipping routes. It will not only accelerate the transition toward lower carbon emissions in the global shipping industry but also help upgrade Oman’s energy industry chain, speeding up the achievement of Oman’s vision goals for 2040. It will create employment opportunities in various sectors such as local shipbuilding, port logistics, and equipment manufacturing, and it will attract international maritime service companies to settle in the Sohar Free Zone, thereby helping the region shift from merely exporting resources to providing high-value services.

Recently, a groundbreaking ceremony was held at the Suhar Port site for the civil works of this important energy project, carried out by China National Chemical Third Construction Company’s Oman branch, marking the official start of its implementation. Since winning the project bid, the Oman-based company has adhered to the principles of \"high standards, strict requirements, and strong commitment to contract fulfillment.\" It quickly assembled an experienced and highly competent management and construction team, developed a highly feasible construction plan, and coordinated various high-quality resources effectively.
