On November 8, at the construction site of the first-phase main line project of the Zhundong Coal-to-Natural Gas Pipeline, China’s largest coal-to-natural gas production facility, multiple excavators were working continuously, with tasks such as pipe mounting, pipeline alignment, and welding being carried out in an orderly manner. Hu Bo, the person in charge of the construction site for this project, explained that through careful organization and strategic planning, as well as continuous optimization of construction resource allocation, the project team was able to overcome the many challenges associated with building in a desert area. To date, the welding, anti-corrosion treatment, and burial of 108 kilometers of pipeline have been completed, laying a solid foundation for the project to be ready for operation by October 2026. The estimated coal reserves in the Jundong Economic and Technological Development Zone in Xinjiang (hereinafter referred to as the Jundong Development Zone) amount to as much as 390 billion tons. Leveraging its abundant coal resources, the Zhundong coal-to-gas production base has become China’s largest coal-to-natural gas production facility at present, converting coal into natural gas efficiently through coal-to-gas technology. The planned total length of the Zhundong coal-to-natural gas pipeline is 780 kilometers, to be constructed in three phases. The first phase includes 1 main line and 2 branch lines, with a design pressure of 12 MPa, and an annual designed gas transmission capacity of 6 billion cubic meters. The project starts at the Jiji Lake Station in the Zhundong Development Zone, passes through Mulei County, and ends at the Liaodun Compressor Station in Yizhou District of Hami City, where it connects to the West-East Gas Pipeline Line 4, thereby integrating into the national natural gas main pipeline network. The total length of the first phase of the line is approximately 254 kilometers, with 3 stations and 8 valve rooms installed. Yang Bin, the engineering technology supervisor of the project construction department for the Zhundong coal-to-natural gas pipeline branch project, said that this project is the largest coal-to-gas transmission pipeline in China, and it employs the fully automatic welding process using D610 internal welders for the first time, with a welding success rate of over 99%. Upon completion, the project will be interconnected with the West-to-East Gas Transmission pipeline network, further enhancing the reliability of China’s natural gas supply.
