Why is the inlet pipe of the TRV safety valve in LNG pipelines so long (around 20 to 30 meters), while that of the safety valve in LPG pipelines is so short (about half a meter)? What is the rationale behind this design? LNG Process Discussion Group
TRV safety valves are generally quite small in size; some of them use threaded connections. They are used to stabilize system pressure by allowing a small amount of leakage, thereby counteracting the effects of temperature increases on the liquid within the system. The inlet length is usually such that the valve operates at a lower liquid level. Ordinary safety valves do not have such specific requirements
