Can a magnetic flap level gauge be used to measure the liquid level in LNG storage tanks? After checking around, I found that the options are either pressure difference type level gauges or servo-type ones, or radar-based ones. Can a magnetic flap level gauge be used? Are there any defects?
I believe that the density of LNG requires metal floats to be large and thin in order to meet the measurement requirements. The critical temperature of the vapor-liquid phase at normal pressure is very low, which makes it difficult to find suitable materials; as a result, it is hard to achieve stable level measurement using magnetic flip switches in such conditions.
Magnetic flap level gauges are used in heat transfer oil systems and buffer tank systems. The storage tanks are equipped with specialized low-temperature level gauges; the level in these tanks can only be viewed on a computer. Level parameters are displayed on the outside of the tanks, making them easily readable.

I can tell you very responsibly that we have indeed used it, but its defects are quite obvious: the storage tank is quite tall, and fixing the magnetic flap level gauge requires additional sliding brackets to prevent deformation. I have dealt with this shipowner’s feedback
I’ve never seen magnetic flap level gauges; they are all of the differential pressure type, with two pressure taps connected to a differential pressure level gauge.
Magnetic flap level gauges might not be suitable; radar level gauges would be a better choice
What I need to know is: aside from deformation factors, can a magnetic flap level gauge accurately measure the liquid level height? Assume that the storage tank is not very tall. Thank you.
An external ultrasonic level gauge can be used
