I would like to ask the experts: In current LNG liquefaction plants, a filtration and separation unit is usually installed before the absorption tower in the carbon removal system. It seems that this unit doesn’t serve a significant purpose, as gas entering the plant is generally processed through a pre-entry separator. What is the main function of this filtration and separation unit? What should be the appropriate filtration precision for such a unit?
We first pass through a separator and then through a coalescing filter. After all, the gas has been compressed by a compressor, and some of the hydrocarbon components in it can still be separated here, thereby reducing the amount of hydrocarbons that enter the absorption and regeneration systems. The coalescing filter has 15 filter elements
Is it mainly to prevent foaming of the amine solution? What should be the appropriate precision for a coalescing filter – is 50 microns sufficient?
The filter element of the coalescing separator has a precision of 5μm and is made of fiberglass. For a wind volume of 40,000, approximately 8 filter elements are used.
A filter is just a filter; it’s not a coalescing filter. An absolute filtration of 5 microns is sufficient for the filter. Filters are used to remove solid particles, while coagulators are primarily employed for gas-liquid and liquid-liquid separation. The two are different.
