The narrow, pointed part allows for more accurate readings when collecting small amounts of liquid, while when large amounts of liquid are collected, it functions just like a regular container with a round or flat bottom. Additionally, this type of bottle can also be used for certain evaporation residue tests, such as liquid ammonia, liquefied gas, dew point oil, and condensate oil. Upon seeing this term, I think of a pseudo-scientist from the former Soviet Union – Lysenko. One of his famous theories, \"acquired inheritance,\" caused a great deal of ridicule in scientific debates. It is said that at one scientific conference, Lysenko promoted his theory of acquired inheritance loudly, and some biologists present dared not speak out against him (Lysenko was a well-known amateur scientist in the Soviet Union at that time). The renowned physicist Landau dismissed Lysenko’s theories completely; considering them to be utterly unsound, he stood up and, in a pretense of humility, asked, \"I’m an outsider when it comes to your theories and don’t understand them very well. But could it be interpreted that if we cut off the ears of cattle in each generation, and continued doing this for many years, we would eventually be able to create a breed of cattle that doesn’t have ears?\" Lysenko actually replied, \"That’s definitely the case.\" ” Landau seemed to suddenly understand: “That’s wonderful.” But then again, why does every woman are born with a hymen?” And the whole room burst into laughter. The Lysenko case back then had a very negative impact on the natural sciences community in the Soviet Union, and it dealt a severe blow to many Soviet scientists.
