The seemingly simple colorimetry method you are using currently is actually quite accurate, even though color scales are employed. If a photometer is used to measure absorbance, the accuracy will be better. Don’t think that simple analysis methods are inaccurate; you know, some biochemical tests use a few plus signs or minus signs to give results that are quite accurate.
It’s unclear what the properties of your sample are; if the colorimetric method is relatively stable, and sampling and processing can ensure sufficient reproducibility, that should work as well. If gas chromatography can be used, it should be simpler and faster.
Please provide information on the sample condition; if a trace amount of acetylene is dissolved in an aqueous solution, a headspace sampler in combination with gas chromatography is a good choice.
