It just occurred to me – heterogenization is seen frequently, but it seems I’ve never encountered normalization. So, is there really such a thing as a normalization reaction?
I just searched on the forum, and there is indeed isobutane normalization, but it doesn’t seem to be very useful.

For diesel processing, n-alkanes are preferable, but isomerized diesel components are generally not normalized to increase the cetane number, as it is too costly to do so.

It makes sense, but most companies don’t have those conditions. For companies equipped with such facilities, the isobutane being converted into n-butane allows for the optimization of the raw material composition for ethylene production, thereby increasing the yield of dienes
Both C4 and C5 normalization processes are available; in fact, the catalysts used for these processes are the same as those used for isomerization. In the past, there were few hydrogenation units, so isobutane was in short supply, which led to the need to isomerize n-butane. Now, with more hydrogenation units and an increased production of isobutane, as well as favorable benefits from ethylene cracking, the process of using n-isobutane as a feedstock for cracking has been reinstated.
