Refined C5, produced by distillation and separation processes using light hydrocarbons obtained from hydrocracking units as raw materials, is mainly used in the manufacture of blowing agents and as a fuel for vehicles. Currently, extraction distillation or azeotropic distillation is employed in industrial applications. Due to the large number of isomers of C5 dienes and the presence of C5 alkynes, single extraction distillation alone cannot yield high-purity isoprene from the C5 fraction; additional secondary extraction distillation, precision distillation, or chemical treatment is required. C5 dienes, particularly cyclopentadiene, are highly reactive and tend to form polymers, posing difficulties in the separation process. Therefore, various polymerization inhibitors must be added during the separation process to prevent blockages in the equipment and pipelines.
