The second phase of Zhejiang Petrochemical Project produces qualified hydrogen

On July 12, the hydrogen production unit using oil residues at Zhejiang Petrochemical (Phase II), constructed by China National Chemical Engineering Corporation Sixth Construction Co., Ltd., successfully carried out its first ignition trial run and produced qualified hydrogen. Hydrogen production from oil residues at Zhejiang Petrochemical is achieved by using 3 Shell residue gasification units to gasify the oil residues produced by the upstream facilities of Zhejiang Petrochemical; after further treatments such as reforming, this gas is converted into hydrogen-rich purified gas, and then pressure swing adsorption is used to purify the hydrogen. In addition to hydrogen production from oil residues, Zhejiang Petrochemical’s Phase II project also involves hydrogen production from coal coke. Coal gasification for hydrogen production utilizes 6 multi-nozzle opposed water-coal slurry gasifiers, with a gasification pressure of 6.5 MPa; each gasifier is capable of processing around 3,000 tons of coal per day. Among them, the oil residue hydrogen production facility is the world’s first unit to use this process for hydrogen production; once completed, it will fill the gap in this field in China.
