On March 22, the expansion project to increase the production capacity of p-xylene at Urumqi Petrochemical Company to 1.5 million tons per year, along with the new PTA production project with a capacity of 2 million tons per year, was officially launched. Completion and commissioning of these projects are scheduled for the third quarter of 2027. According to the official WeChat account of China National Petroleum Corporation’s Urumqi Petrochemical Company, “Urumqi Petrochemical Online,” the launch of this project marks the official implementation of Urumqi Petrochemical’s strategic plan to become the largest aromatic compounds industry hub in the Northwest region. Among them, the expansion project of the aromatic hydrocarbons facility and the related raw material modification works reduce the production of gasoline and diesel while keeping the crude oil processing volume unchanged, thereby increasing the production of p-xylene and petroleum benzene. The PTA project uses domestically produced p-xylene as raw material, and is equipped with an intelligent control system as well as green, energy-saving facilities; its designed annual production capacity is 2 million tons. Upon completion of the project, Wushihua Petrochemical will achieve two major advancements: its industrial chain will extend from oil refining to PTA, thereby fostering the development of a petrochemical and textile industry cluster worth over 100 billion yuan ; It has become the largest aromatic hydrocarbons industry base in the northwest region, and through the \"integration of refining, chemical processing, and textiles\" model, it helps Xinjiang develop modern chemical and textile apparel industry clusters.
