On September 8, the Press Office of Sinopec reported that recently the largest hydrogen fuel cell supply project in Guangdong – the Sinopec Maoming Petrochemical Hydrogen Fuel Cell Supply Center project – began construction in Maoming, Guangdong. This project is currently the only hydrogen supply project in western Guangdong. Once the project is completed and put into operation, it will meet the hydrogen demand in western Guangdong, enhance the region’s capacity for hydrogen production and supply, and contribute to the rapid development of the hydrogen energy industry in Guangdong. The total investment for this project is 62.44 million yuan, which includes the construction of a hydrogen purification unit with a design capacity of 3,000 standard cubic meters per hour, as well as a hydrogen refueling station with a hydrogen supply capacity of 500 kilograms per hour. The project will be built using technologies owned by Sinopec, which offer advantages such as reduced land use and lower energy consumption; it is expected to be completed and put into operation in the first quarter of next year. At present, Sinopec is accelerating the development of an industrial structure based on \"one core, two wings, and three innovations,\" striving to become a world-leading company in the field of clean energy chemicals. It is making comprehensive efforts to develop the entire hydrogen industry chain; during the 14th Five-Year Plan period, 1,000 hydrogen refueling stations are planned to be built. It is expected that 100 new refueling stations will be established this year, with the goal of becoming China’s leading hydrogen company and driving the high-quality development of the country’s hydrogen industry. Sinopec is the largest hydrogen producer in China, with an annual hydrogen production capacity of over 3.9 million tons, accounting for around 11% of the country’s total hydrogen output. Six hydrogen purification production units have been installed at enterprises such as Yanshan Petrochemical, Guangzhou Petrochemical, Hainan Refining & Chemical, Takahashi Petrochemical, Zhenhai Refining & Chemical, and Qingdao Refining & Chemical. To strengthen the connection between hydrogen production and consumption, 22 hydrogen refueling stations have been built in 14 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities including Guangdong and Shanghai. It is understood that the Hydrogen Fuel Cell Hydrogen Supply Center project in Maoming Petrochemical is under the EPC general contracting responsibility of Sinopec Guangzhou Engineering Company; delivery is scheduled for January 25, 2022, with operation set to begin in the first quarter of 2022.
